Drucker Offers Up Heartfelt Indie-Folk Single ‘The News’

About The News
Drucker’s recent single is a tender tribute to the search for fame. Inspired by deep introspection, analysing the ego’s need for recognition, The News is an exploration of the human condition in the guise of a love song. Rooted in his darkly earnest sound, the soundscape is stunningly stripped back. A guitar riff lays the foundation of the track, whilst Drucker’s poignant melodies soar over the top. Thick harmonies swim in and out, emphasising the intense emotion fuelling this song.

Speaking on the lyrical meaning of ‘The News’, Drucker shares:

“In all honesty, I’d been feeling like everything was happening to me in slow motion, like I wasn’t connecting with people in the way I needed to, like I should be doing, on some primal, egotistical level. My mind could envision exactly where it wanted to go, but life was just happening way too slowly. Basically, this translates to the idea that “I felt that if I were to die young, it would be more of a local news story, than an international incident”. And that wrecks me, a little.”

Throughout the track, Drucker carries listeners through an intimately emotive journey, inviting you to delve deep into your feelings and find what could break you, like the news. Speaking on the creative process of ‘The News’, Drucker shares,

“I’m waiting outside the studio, and I happen to set up a camera leaning off of my guitar case. Long story short, I basically wrote the entire song in one shot. It’s been tweaked slightly in form since then, because I found it a little too raw as a topic, and I think it’s a little too specific. I worked to flip it a little, and found a way to wrap it in a pretty straight forward love story that presents as the most natural meaning for the lyrics. But the key word for me in the song is “you”. If the “you” to you is some imaginary other, brilliant, that’s what the song is about. But to me, I’m the “you” as self-indulgent as that might be.”
