All Eyes on Aneessa

Can you please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your musical journey and background?

Hello, I’m Anissa Boudjaoui Sutton, known as Aneessa. My musical journey began in Saint-Étienne, France. While my early artistic interests revolved around dance, particularly modern jazz and contemporary dance, my journey took an unexpected turn towards singing and performing. My exposure to diverse musical tastes within my family ignited a passion for singing. I ventured into the music scenes of Europe and Asia under stage names Anya Rose and Lady Aneessa. After studying literature and languages at University Paris La Sorbonne IV, I performed jazz, soul, and pop covers at Parisian bars. My musical odyssey continued with various experiences, from recording in Paris, France and Manchester, UK, to establishing my own record label and studio. Ultimately, my partnership with Michael B. Sutton, my husband, added new dimensions to my musical voyage. We continue to co-create, and our latest project blends various styles, including smooth jazz and urban adult contemporary.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your sound and style?

My musical influences are a diverse spectrum, ranging from the timeless Sade to Madonna and contemporary artists. These influences have shaped my unique sound, which incorporates elements of smooth jazz, pop, and R&B. The sultry vibes of Sade and the soulful tunes of artists like Norah Jones and Madonna’s lyrics and melodies have had a significant impact on my musical style.

Can you share a specific artist or album that has had a significant impact on your music?

Absolutely, Sade’s album « Diamond Life » has been particularly influential. Her blend of smooth jazz and soul resonated with me deeply, and it played a crucial role in shaping my own musical direction.

What’s your creative process like when you’re composing or writing a new song?

My creative process is highly collaborative. I work closely with my husband, Michael B. Sutton, and other talented musicians such as James Gadson, James Manning, Josh Sklair, Tommy Organ, Fernando Harkless, and Timbali Caldwell in the United States.. We brainstorm ideas, craft melodies, write heartfelt lyrics, and arrange the music. I draw inspiration from my own experiences, emotions, and musical influences. The result is a collection of songs that reflect my personal journey and observations.

Among all the songs you’ve created, do you have a personal favorite? If so, what makes it special to you?

It’s tough to pick a favorite among my musical creations; each song holds a unique place in my heart. However, « Just To Be With You » carries a special significance. This song celebrates commitment and the ability to overcome distance. It encapsulates the power of love and determination.

Can you share the story or inspiration behind that particular song?

« Just To Be With You » draws its inspiration from the deep bond my husband, Michael, and I share. It reflects our journey of being in a long-distance relationship for some time and the profound yearning to be together. The song became a way to express the strength of our love.

Let’s talk about your latest song. What’s the title, and what’s the story or message behind it?

My latest song is titled « Nothing Can Come Between Us. » This song is particularly special to me because it mirrors our life journey. It’s originally written and performed by Sade, and it’s a timeless track that never fails to uplift our spirits. The song reflects the unbreakable connection and love between my husband and me.

Share a memorable or unique experience from one of your live performances.

It’s worth noting that I haven’t performed live in quite a few years. My focus has primarily been on creating and recording music, as well as my work with Pump It Up Magazine. While live performances were an essential part of my earlier career, I’ve been dedicating my efforts to other aspects of the music industry and related ventures recently. However, my love for music remains unwavering, and who knows, there might be live performances on the horizon in the future.

Beyond music, do you have any hobbies or interests that you’re passionate about? How do they influence your music?

Certainly! In addition to music, I have a deep passion for natural health and wellness. My husband and I have embarked on a journey in the wellness industry with West End Organix, where we promote health products such as black seed oil and holistic medicine, including quantum medicine. These interests in wellness and natural health play a significant role in shaping my music. They contribute to the overarching theme of positivity and well-being that runs through my work. It’s all about promoting a holistic sense of health and happiness through both music and wellness products.

Is there a dream collaboration you’d like to pursue in the future?

While I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with many talented artists, one dream collaboration I’d love to explore is working with an iconic musician who has had a significant impact on the industry. It would be an incredible opportunity to create music together and bring our unique styles and experiences into harmony. Collaborations like these often lead to the birth of something truly remarkable.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians who are just starting their journey in the music industry?

My advice to aspiring musicians is to stay dedicated and patient. The road to success in the music industry takes time and effort. You will encounter setbacks and challenges, but it’s essential to keep going and hold on to your dreams, just as I express in my song »Gonna Be Alright. »

Also, don’t forget to educate yourself about the business side of the industry and build connections with fellow musicians and professionals.
